Oxford

Oxford is a popular fabric for shirts. This fabric gives a sporty character to the shirt. The Oxford weave is characterised by a coarse weave structure. This kind of weaving makes the fabric light, airy and strong. Typically, it is characterised by the honeycomb structure in which different threads cross each other in pairs.

At the end of the 19th century, a Scottish weaver made a few limited-edition fabrics for the more prestigious universities: Harvard, Yale, Cambridge and Oxford. While the other fabrics are no longer to be found, the Oxford still holds an important place among the modern shirt fabrics.
